13 Days Old

I was hoping that the sable and the chocolate and cream would open their eyes today but not so far. Maybe by tomorrow. They do it on their time schedule, not ours. It means 2 eyes open, 2 not.

Here is the gallery.

They are now gaining over an ounce a day. They have filled out nicely.

10 Days Old

Well, I was brushed today. LOL

Here is the gallery.

Can't wait till this crew opens their eyes too. They love to snuggle. they tell mom - let your milk down. It's almost like a purring noise. It's a riot.

They eat, they sleep and do it again at this age. That will soon end.

9 Days Old

Can you believe 10 days we started this all and 1 was born then after midnight the rest started coming. I have to admit the days just came and went. I always manage to have my time. I look forward to eyes open and out of whelping box and fun.

Here is the gallery.

Saffron had a bath and she has this huge shaved area on her back. It's going to take a long time for that to grow - maybe by Summer. LOL

But her pups are gorgeous and someone today looked at her and said she was gorgeous. She is. She is our smallest but a mighty one. Love those babies - oh my she does!

Be sure to check out the videos.

8 Days Old

If there is a mother of all mothers, it is Saffron. She lives to mother pups. It is hard to explain but even in pain, all she cared about are those pups. She is relentless about connecting with Stone and she lights up with her pups. I have all good moms but she is truly amazing or shall I say determined.

Here is the gallery.

Moms are starting to eat more as pups intake is increasing. Nathan better stock up on steak. LOL

1 Day Short of a Week Old

I honestly can't believe it is a week tomorrow. How did that happen. It seems like they were just born.

Here is a small gallery.

Saffron remains a grand mom. She just loves those little ones immensely.

They are starting to get plump and are growing.

I am working on uploading videos. It may take me till tomorrow but I am trying.

5 Days Old Already!

I really mean - already. 5 days has been a ton of work but oh boy they are getting older. They are the most huggiest crew. This white and black is a riot. Saffron gives her kisses and she kisses mom back.

Here is the gallery.

They want for nothing.

The moms are getting extra close. I find it interesting. When moms share this experience, they bond deeply. I was watching Raven and Stormy today and went ah what a nice development and I see it with Ella, Cinnamon and Saffron.

Pups are doing well. They are lively. They sleep deeply and they are gaining well.

Be sure to watch the videos.

4 Days Old

The puppies are giving poor Saffron hickies. She is such a good mom and never complains. They fuss, she is right there.

Here is the gallery.

Saffron gets so excited to see me in the morning. The pups are starting to look plumped up. A couple have gained 5/8oz in 24 hours and the other two 7/8oz.

I need to do individual photos. I am just trying to find the time.

Be sure to check out the videos.

Three Days Old

The Saffron pups are 3 days old. They fuss, Saffron nuzzles them, flips them over to see if they have any issues and then flops down for them to feed from her. She seems to be in no pain today. She still also wants everyone else's pups and she can't stand if they are fussing. She wants to take care of them.

Here is the gallery.

Saffron has this big huge bald spit on her back. Luckily they lefy enough hair that I can flip it over the spot to make it less noticeable.

Be sure to check out the videos.

Two Days Old

This girl is I believe a chocolate. One gal - the pretty bandit gal was born on the 30th and the rest on my father-inlaws birthday. I have to pick one date so we will be picking the 31st as the majority rules. So we shall say 2 days old. It was so close to midnight.

Here is today's gallery.

The pups are now passing their birth weight. They had lost as they were sharing milk with other pups. If they had longer with the other moms the milk supply would have built up.

Saffron appears to be recovering nicely though her desire to have the other pups as well is driving me crazy but each of these moms are going through this. They want it all!

Pups appear to enjoy up against the wall. I am not sure why. They do look for the heat as they are closest to the door and we can get a draft if I don't keep them protected, so I do.

Saffron dotes over them.

We have 3 girls and 1 dark sable boy. They are beautiful and I celebrate life and the miracle of a great mom. It does make a difference. We make them feel like they are amazing for all the work they do as they are. I know how mothering is. This connection with our moms transfers to the pups. When they are happy, you get happy pups.

Saffron is the best eater in the house at the moment - Cinnamon next and Ella wants to be hand fed. LOL Each is different. That's okay. Pups are gorgeous! I am particularly interested to see how this bandit turns out as this one is a throwback to Spicy and Wasabi. She's going to look striking. Not that they all aren't but I can see how the markings will grow and I love different.

Be sure to watch the videos.

Update Saffron

She needs help to get in and out of the xpen so she is in a bit more pain but she is eating well. She is feeding her pups. They are gaining. Her bowels are solid. She is really amazing. She is doing well. Her pups are rather lively too.

I do believe one may be a chocolate. Can you tell which. The white with a black streak over one eye and full mask on the other is a character already,

She is doing so well that Dennis may be doing night shift.

Some of these photos may be a duplicate of an earlier gallery but I am not totally recovered. So just enjoy them again. Here is the gallery.

Almost a Full Day Old

Saffron is home. One always worries after a c-section (only had 1 previous to this years ago) that the moms won't bond with their pups, their milk may not come in and they are in a lot of pain. It is tricky giving pain pills to moms as it will get to the pups via mother's milk.

Saffron was so excited to see her pups despite being in pain. She is feeding them. They are gaining well now as they are not sharing Cinnamon and Ella's milk. Saffron is so attentive.

Here is the gallery.

They gave us a pain pill for her called Gabapentin and told us that it wouldn't transfer to the pups. I sent a note to my support system with other breeders and they said it not only transfers to pups but can create seizures in the pups. So, poor Saffron will have to cope with the pain for a few days. So far she is doing well. Mothers in real serious pain will not eat. She is eating and drinking well.

I got Saffron back with mats despite she went without. They shaved her back about a 4 inch by 4 inch block and I am not sure why. I have brushed out most of her. If she was there another day I would have had to shave her down.

I slept a few hours and I am on night shift. At 730am I will crawl into bed again and crash. I will probably do a few nights of night shift. It will interfere with grooming but I felt Saffron needed my care at night.

Ella and Cinnamon was miffed at Saffron taking care of her pups. It seems they had a strong instinct to mother them. Now after 1am, they seem to have calmed down.

I have uploaded the videos of Saffron's birth experience. Plus a few videos now that she is back home. You will also see videos of Cinnamon and Ella taking care of Saffron pups. I appreciate them. Six more hours before sleep.

Let me end this that I will never go to vet emerg again. They take you at your most vulnerable point and say care, deposit first and no you can't be with your dog. Go home and bring back cash or you can't get your dog. They don't care how you get it. They just want it. The fees cost us literally 5 times what a vet would have cost us. Our local vet was not available. Northumberland was too far away. I can't afford this. No one can - to be hit with this astronomical bill. Beyond that they don't tell me the gender of the pup nor the colour - nor allow us to say goodbye. They dispose of it. I am so unimpressed. But Saffron is alive and I am thankful for that. To say I haven't cried off and on today would be a lie. What a ride that I am glad gave me Saffron doing well and the end of it. Oh, and we test all our dogs but they insisted for a minor cost they had to do a blood panel and calcium check on her. That minor cost was 550. Of course all tests they did came back that she is a healthy gal.

Oh and they told us we should have been supplementing her with calcium the last month. That is a big no no as it can create intertia and eclampsia. I shut my mouth. It was obvious they are not reproduction vets. No one is in the city so why would they know. Instead I get meds that could affect the pups and bad advice.

Enough ranting. This anger will pass. I am happy that we have 4 gorgeous pups and most of all Saffron is doing well. I suspect that in a few days she will be pain free. She's an amazing mom as when she saw them she was so excited. I am blessed to have great moms.

Saffron's Home

She's home. She was a bloody knotted mess but ever so happy to see her pups. Ella is miffed she's taking care of her own pups. They shaved her back. I am not sure why. She has a bald spot about the size - well its huge. It will grow. She's a bit stoned but she is ever so happy to be home and happy to be with her pups. Out of this world happy to be with them.

I will be up with them all night. I will upload a video of her greeting her pups but I am off to bed for 3 hours so I can stay up all night.

You will find the videos here.

Thank you, Michelle Loder for the transfer to help with vet bills. That's not why I shared it with all of you but deeply appreciated. I shared it as vet emerg is NOT where to take your dogs unless you have no choice, imho. It's the money and all the rest. I will remain never knowing what color or gender the puppy is that we lost. I am ever so sad.

We are a Family of 4

The 5th one didn't make it. Saffron they said made it through surgery well. We can't get her till after 5.

I have to say, I am so thoroughly sad. They couldn't even tell me what colour or if it was a girl or a boy.

Never again Vet Emerg.

Pups Are Coming Here Plus Complications; Photos Added

Click on Photo for Larger ViewFirst born is a girl at 1142pm. She weighs 5-4/8oz 156g. This one has a bandit eye with a half mask on the other side and spot on top of head. Verdict out on true colour as it dries.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewNext one born on January 31st - at 1am. He appears to be a very dark brown sable boy. He weighs in at 6-4/8oz 184g

Click on Photo for Larger ViewNext puppy was born at 226am. She is a brown and cream girl. She weighs 5-1/8oz 147g

Click on Photo for Larger ViewNext puppy is a girl born at 318am. It's a girls that weighs 5-1/8oz 148g. She looks black but is a very dark brown sable.

She has 1 more still in utero. More later.

Saffron's last pup would not come so after 4 plus hours we took her to Vet Emerg. They ae doing a c-section on her. Pups has a heartbeat but the pup was in a U shape so couldn't come. Our local vet was at a talk so she was unavailable so they suggested vet emerg.

The cost of 3 puppies to do a c-section. they also did blood tests, calcium test etc. Everything was fine. They also had hidden in the bill a c-section. We caught it. If she had one it would have interfered with her milk production. Cute.

We can't afford this but we are figuring it out.

I had to take the pups home and at first Cinnamon and Ella were feeding them but Cinnamon's nipples are too large so Ella ended up feeding them all. I will have to do that till this evening when hopefully Saffron will feed them. Poor thing...

I will never go to Vet Emerg again. It is clinical. They wouldn't let us see them or the pups and then told us to get the pups out of there and they will call us. Bring money...

I have not slept. Nathan is sleeping now. So we await what gender and colour the pup is, how Saffron is doing and if the pup makes it. Stay tuned... sigh

I am beyond tired and upset.

Photos etc coming.

Both Moms trying to feed Saffron's pups/ Cinnamon's milk stations are too large.

Saffron's pups being fed by Ella - all 4.

The four after feeding. We will have them feed on Ella in 2 hours. Ella's milk production will increase and hopefully by tonight Saffron can feed her 5. Time will tell. She will certainly be under the influence from anesthesia and very sore.

Here is the gallery of the 4. We will add the 5th if all goes well tonight.
