Darlah has been using corn starch to deal with the occassional tear staining we sometimes see. It does work. As you mentioned it does saturate and glue itself to the hairs but if you gently wipe the area first, with the same kind of cotton ball used to remove makeup, it is less likely to take any hairs with it and if it does, it is minimal and helps you deal with the stained area regardless allowing new hair to grow in. We've tried everything here. We have the various products sold specifically to deal with this but Darlah has found that just using corn starch is as good or better solution than anything on the market. Thank you for asking.

I am really interested in trying the Corn Starch on Kayla. Do you just mix it with a little water and then apply with a cotton ball? How much corn starch and how much water?

Hi, This is Darlah, the resident groomer. This is how I use the corn starch.
Each day I clean up the eye area. If the area has red stains on it, I take a dab of corn starch - a significant size and dab it on. It looks awful but it goes away pretty quickly. There is no need to mix it. Then if I want to remove the hair that is offended, I just comb it out daily. That will remove the hair to allow you to start anew. But then you don't have to cut it that way. It is a slower process and looks more natural than cutting. It also doesn't hurt them to comb through it.
If the stains are all gone, I use the same method DAILY but I wash the area with a warm wash cloth and then add corn starch to the clean area daily. The amount you use after it is gone is less but it keeps it at bay. It works in solidifying the drainage and it also gets rid of yeast which is in the tear staining almost neutralizing it.
It's cheap and effective but only if you do it daily.

Thank you Darlah. We have been using diamond eye, but would much rather use a more natural ingredient like corn starch. We will definitely try this.

Have you been using the corn starch to solve the tear stain problems? Do you find that it works? My issue seems to be that the corn starch gets saturated and glues itself to the hairs, then when you comb it out, it take some hair with it. Any thoughts?
