7 Days Old

Mothering is hard work especially when you try to take care of everyone else's. Cinnamon does too but I believe you count how many they have and think not fair.

Here is the gallery.

She so loves her puppies. they are getting fat and they let mom know when they want to feed. Bravo little ones!

Be sure to look at the videos.

6 Days Old

Ella is a riot. She now wants Cinnamon and her pups. I guess 3 is not enough.

Here is the gallery.

Soon I will be going to bed. I had a good night with all 3 moms. Had a hard time staying awake but I managed to so far. Ella didn't want to go outside. I guess it is rather cold outside.

I felt like a gourmet cook for Ella, Saffron and Cinnamon. They only want the good stuff.

Pups are in great shape. I just finished weighing them. All gains for all 3 moms.

Be sure to check out the videos.

6 Days Old Already

Ella is such a good mom. She is so much in love with her puppies but I think when she took care of Saffron's she got quite excited that she had more pups. I think she would be happy with a lot of puppies.

Here is the gallery.

I also have a video of her feeding Saffron's pups. I am glad that they are who they are and took over vs me having to feed the pups formula. Mother's milk is best.

Ella's pups are nice and plump. The moms are adjusting to just their own. It's easier, Ella. LOL

5 Days Old Already!

Ella's pups are doing ever so well. They are sharing milk stations with Saffron's pups. They don't seem to mind.

So far Ella is great with Saffron's pups.

4 Days Old

Oh the trio of pups. if Saffron has 5 pups, we will have moms that have 3, 4 and 5 pups. How interesting.

Here is the gallery.

Pups are plump, wanting for nothing and Momma Ella wants Cinnamon's pups too. LOL

Three Days Old

Three days old and they are getting plump. Such cuties!

Here is the gallery.

Ella has had a great day. She eats if I feed her out of hand - yes even including mousse. She hates haddock. Cinnamon loves it. It makes for lots of cooking. But mom is good and so are pups.

Be sure to watch the videos.

Two Days Old

I have never had this happen. Now that it is 2 full days, Ella has finally calmed down. She is not a first time mom (this is her 2nd litter) and she was highly agitated. She kept trying to hide her babies. She was overzealous in cleaning them. She was hardly eating but we also knew she had an upset tummy. Her tummy issues (normal after delivery) have calmed down. She is no longer agitated or digging.

When talking to others they say to invite strangers into a home on the same day of birth is what precipiated her mother instinct to protect. Live and learn. Who knew. Why didn't Cinnamon react? She was tucked away in the corner away from the door and her pups were older. She wasn't dealing with the surges of motherly hormones going on in the same day.

We rearranged the room last night and she was very agitated. She picked up her pups in her mouth and tucked them under the mat. After we finished the room, she slept. She hadn't slept since they were born. This morning she was back to her usual calm self and no longer agitated and trying to hide the pups. She doesn't like new dogs coming by if the door is open but if you close it, she relaxes. This is new mother syndrome.

Pups have been gaining a few ounces each day but that's all. Stress interferes with milk production. Pups are lively, round and want for nothing. Ella's milk is coming in more as of this morning. Everything seems to be back to normal.

Just glad this is over. It was an added stress that was difficult to cope with except to reassure her and give her major hugs.

Here is today's gallery.

I celebrate and learn something new. I am glad we had the 6 week visit. It would have happened on the full day old too and still be an issue. Now it is done.

I am glad that we did it. It is how we learn.

We celebrate 3 plump pups and less stress!

Just Over a Day Old

I think they match this mat. LOL Polka dots and polka dots.

All pups have gained. An average of 3.8 oz since last night. That's actually good when you realize its just for 12 hours.

Here is the gallery.

Ella is still fretting. It is driving me crazy. I hope she calms down soon. She also has an upset tummy from birthing. I hope that settles down as she doesn't feel like eating - even steak. I will try her on mousse in a bit.

Oh Boy

Ella has 3 beautiful pups but due to all the activity in the house, she has been overly fretting over her pups. We have to be aware of that aspect. She was also trying to chew their cords over and over. That is how to create umbilical hernias. it's not serious as it is superficial and can be corrected with a stitch at spay or neutering time but it is irritating when they get so obsessive. Too much cleaning is so unncessary.

She has spent her time trying to hide her pups, chewing on cords and moving constantly. I went to weigh them figuring they lost with all my distraction with visitors, grooming and her fretting but they all gained. There is that.

Here is the gallery of the pups during their birth and after.

Be sure to check out the videos of the birth. I am still uploading them.

Tie Plus Calendar

Ella and Truffie November 14, 2018
Due Jan 29th if early (go home date April 9)
Tie 8:50am to 9:00am 19 minutes Nov 27

No tie Nov 28

As you know Ella was bred last time to Truffie by artificial insemination. No matter what we did she wouldn't connect. We started out having the same. Realize she has never done this but today Truffie made a connection. We had planned on breeding her to one of Paula's dogs but we were afraid she was too late in her cycle. Who knew. With dad dying and all Nathan was not up to travelling and I would worry that driving was not the best and hes been away a great deal already. Paula offered us to send her up with her handler and she would bring her back a week later. That would have worked except we had this issue with her not wanting to connect. Things happen for a reason. I simply realize we are not recovered yet but we are making great strides - or trying to. Besides Sky is a beauty - no?
