She Has Her Way

Funny how Saffron can play with her pups despite them still feeding. They seem to know there is feeding time and playing time. Good ones! Nathan had them out this morning and I had them out this afternoon. I like it when Nathan does it with me so I can catch them in action with him.

Tomorrow the pups have their first bath and photos. Saturday is the visit. We are going to do it outside so please dress warm. We will do a portion watching them running and a portion on the deck so you can sit upclose and personal with them. It will be fun, I promise!

Pups are sleeping really well at night but this crew always loves their dream time and then they love their play.

Here is the gallery.

Someone made it up on the deck. You will have to watch the video to see whom. Didn't see it. Just saw that the pup was up on the top stair. Oh funny! They are little so that is some feat.

Interesting how Saffton climbs on top of the crate to monitor her babies. Is it so she can hang out her babies without them going after her milk bar all the time?

Yes this way she can watch and not have them feed but she is pretty good at getting them to understand no. She growls and they listen. I find it fascinating.

I can't believe Saffron is such an amazing first time mom. She's loving to her pups but at the same time playful with them. She communicates so well with her pups. The pups must have learned a lot from her. Developmental, the pups seem pretty advanced in their 7 weeks of age.

Yes, that they are. They are pretty balanced pups. Usually you have to condition them to changes to build up their coping skills. It's quite normal and what you do matters here and when they go home. But these pups seem to embrace the newness of things. They didn't even react to the planes except to look up at them as if to say oh.

I had someone tell me off that Saffron didn't lay in with her pups 24/7. I was glad she didn't. She is a small gal and having them constantly feed would tax her system. Plus I found out they actually slept better early on allowing them to create habits of 'good' sleep. They still got mom time when they were awake. The balance was so good for them. I hope I can convince Adele and Jeannie to do the same.

Plus look at Saffron being able to play with them early on vs after they are weaned. They are not over dependent or too attached to feeding from mom that they eat and then there are other things to do.

Saffron has taught me a lot and she is happy as she has balance. She loves her pups and it is obvious but she also has time to relax and not fret that her pups are crying for her and the only time they cry for her is first thing in the morning when it has been an entire night without mom.

I am quite pleased with the development of these pups. Thank you Saffron for being amazing and teaching me that balance for moms are so important too - human or canine!
