4 Weeks Old

4 week old fun. I enter the pen and say puppy, puppy, puppy and they literally wake up and walk as fast as they can to me. Then they head for the pad. This crew is so bloody good at using the pad. It is rare that I find an accident. When they are in a clean environment they tend to continue that.

Here is today's gallery.

It is challenging to keep Saffron away from Emmy and Rowan's food. She seems to get an upset tummy from it as she is used to Fromms. So now that Rowan and Emmy are weaning I can do set meals and watch that they eat it all or pick up the remaining. My only other alternative is to keep her in the xpen with the pups but then the pups don't sleep as well when I do that. So, I think the latter is the way to go. We do not ever have 2 different brands of food so this challenge is new. We learn from every new experience and we adapt.

Saffron seems to be better. She is eating. She is loving up her pups and snuggling with me.

Pups are eating and Saffron is eating along side them. Saffron likes the mousse too. Pups bowels are slightly loose. Not sure if that is due to Saffron or the addition of food or both. It's not runny and they are eating so I am not worried. I just have to do the odd bum clean up. It's normal for their tummies to adjust to the addition to solids. I am trying to get them to drink water but beyond the odd lick, they are not interested. That too is what usually happens. It often takes up to a week for them to realize the value of water. For now they are getting sufficient fluid from mom and from the food.

They are now up to 4 plus hours between feedings. This is good as its not taxing Saffron. But her hair - well I may be cutting her down but I am trying to save it. They crawl all over her, munch on it and well make it interesting. We will see how it unfolds. That is why so many cut their dogs down before they whelp as short hair doesn't get as damaged.
