10 Days Old

I can't wait till the eyes open. Going to be exciting times, don't you think?

Here is today's gallery.

Puppy gal and mom is doing well. Videos going up now.

She cuddles with mom a ton and she manages to get all over the whelping box.

Spirit's pup now weighs 14-6/8oz 420g

Do you think a singleton misses something by not having siblings to cuddle with? I was thinking about how she was trying to lie with/on Cinnamon’s pup. Also, are singletons more independent as adults? Or is the link with mom stronger and makes up for a lack of siblings? I know she’ll benefit from the others when they all merge. I just don’t remember having a singleton for a while.

Shannon: The bond is greater due to no competition. Just is. Plus pups love to cuddle with siblings but she was kind of fllattening the boy as there is significant size difference, as it should with a week plus difference in age. Independence is not due to siblings though. Think about humans. They can be less independent or not. Siblings are not a factor. But as we always like to have other litters at the same time, she will not experience being a singleton long. She will have to learn to compete, learn how to cope when someone says no play now. She will have the experience of the rest with an extra doting from mom. A singleton without the interaction of the other pups misses out on critical learning but if done right, they play catchup when older with the adults teaching them. It all works out. I hope Spirit is allowed to fully and lovingly interact with the other pups. I hope the other moms allow her to take on the duties of mentoring their pups when we merge them.

Thanks, Darlah. It’s very interesting to watch it all play out.

Darlah that is very interesting. Looking forward to watching it over the next 10 weeks. I know with your dogs they will all love one another and in the end they share.

I already see the bond occurring with the moms. Cinnamon is experienced. Sharing this experience usually creates a deep bond. They are already going outside and prancing look at me to the other dogs. It is so funny!
