Over A Week Old

How did we arrive at a bit over a week? I have to admit having a new whelping a couple of days apart really gave me pause about what date - how old?

The pups are feeding rather well. Roxie not so much. She is picky so we do many things to get her to eat. She's eating enough to get good gain on the pups but I would be happier if she had more weight on her. She is a tiny gal but we did manage to get weight on her previous to this. Sometimes Daddy hand feeding works other times she says are you kidding - you can do better. Spice and Panda are eating really well.

But Roxie remains an amazing mom. I swear she looks at the others and go you have how many? I only have 2?

When the pups are 2 plus weeks I will give Roxie a bath. She doesn't have a large enough window to leave them and besides it would stress her out. I may give her a waterless bath. We shall see. I was thinking of doing that for the others too.

These pups will open their eyes first or maybe not. Seeing that Panda's are not that much older hers could open their eyes first.

I rather like both of Roxies. One is a creamy beauty and one is a tri handsome dude.

One week... wow time goes by too fast.

Can all the mom's see each other ?

February 25, 2014 | Unregistered CommenterKathy & Kona

Yes, in this case all the moms can see each other though Spice's has a bumper pad so they can't truly see her pups and Panda and Roxie have a whelping box (only had 2) so you can't see their pups either. Though when I take them all outside they do look in. Even Spice is relaxing about that. Though she keeps her pups at the top end of her xpen. Spice doesn't need a whelping box as she is experienced and knows to move the pups out of the way when she lays down. Panda has the pigs rail as she is not experienced and has 4 pups. That offers some protection but we are here and we hear them. Roxie doesn't have a pigs rail but there are only 2 and she seems to be really good about her awareness of where the pups are as there are only 2. I need to get a whelping box made with pigs rails. More imperative when people have pups in their bedroom while they sleep or down the hall. By 3 weeks they are out of it.
