Usually Just 1 Blog But Exceptions Today

Notice the tails? That is an indicator that the milk is let down and they are tanking up. In a half hour I will be weighing them again.

Here are more photos.

Misty keeps going outside and bringing in cedar pieces to the whelping box. I feel like I need a broom for the whelping box. hahaha

Over a Day Old

Pups all gained. The littlest gained the most. LOL The largest the least. They get noisy when they want mom's milk to let down. They get noisy if they are behind mom. They get noisy if they are cold or too hot. They know what they want and need. After they eat, they sleep well. If they are not getting enough milk, they try to eat non stop. That is not the case here.

They seem to melt into you when you hold and stroke them.

Here is the gallery.

Mom has loose bowels so I am cleaning her but that is normal after delivery. She is eating very well. Yesterday 8 times. Today so far twice.

Each day I change blankets as needed. I weigh the pups twice a day 12 hours apart if I catch the time right. I do blogs, photos and videos. The videos are uploaded many times a day as I get to them. They are always found here.

Ms Misty loves her massages especially one on her head.

Everyone is doing well!

Just a Quick Update and Explanation

Last night we setup the xpens in my office/familyroom. When the earliest due date was Thursday for Misty, we pay attention to signs. She had a mucous plug for almost a week slowly and then quickly shedding. She was hiding in a crate. She really doesn't like a crate and although her temps should be at 98 to indicate delivery, I only took it last night and realized this was low but could be on its way back up. I was right. Dennis and I set this xpen up and I will explain what is what in this setup.

We have 2 whelping boxes with towels for delivery that are sterilized. We have a scale, whelping supplies that include hemostats. We have mats that I created for the moms for their food. We have a pad for them to relieve themselves though we take them out but not in this rain. We have blankets after they are finished that are nice and clean and soft and comfie. Sherry makes one for each mom for that after whelping shot. Thank you, Sherry! I had planned on visiting some baby consignment stores for the crib quilts but did I?

We also have cameras that we can watch no matter where we are. We have heatlamps with an alert indicator that sets up an alarm if it goes too low or too high in small increments. We have a humidifier that also sends out an alert to regulate the proper humidity level. We also have a air purifier. In this room we have a tv, recliner and a couch plus my desk and equipment. It is a large room but feels small once the xpens are up.

Everything is regulated for mom and pups. The pups are monitored 24/7.

They are doing well. They have all gained or held their weight. The smallest gained the most. They are doing really well. Usually pups lose weight the 1st 24 hours but she has milk and they are eating!

She Did It

Click on Photo for Larger ViewWe are early - 1st possible date was Thursday. Good thing we set up last night. I was up late and then never got to sleep. After the last puppy was born, I cleaned off Misty - who was a mess. I threw all the towels in plus the blanket which the pup was born on last night. Nathan carried Misty and the pup downstairs so no videos if him being born but we got what we could. You should have heard me - puppy is born now. Let's go.

Here is the gallery.

I am trying to regroup but I will get the videos up shortly. Misty kept going after the cords and Nathan had to keep pushing her away. My video prg keeps dying. I imagine it is due to the latest ios and no replacement for it.

With Nathan pushing Misty away from biting the cords, it wasn't being mean but rather making sure she didn't bite them too closely. This is all natural. We didn't have vanilla ice cream for calcium nor baby Bell. Nathan has to go get some. We have Sage too and we need her to get calcium. I tried grinding up a tums but she was having none if it. She is sleeping now.

Pups are all eating and finding mom. I try to make the littlest get one of the bottom stations where most milk is but all are lively.

I am trashed. No day off for Dennis today nor me tomorrow. Till next year. I imagine tonight I will crash as after Nathan naps, Dennis will.

Not even sure anyone has noticed we had pups. I had to telll a couple of people. Misty had her own schedule. Now to upload videos.

What's New: Temps Added

Misty is sleeping on her back here and there and everywhere. She dislikes crates but we have got her used to it but given a choice she will not use one. Today she is finding comfort in one. It is always different when you are a mom to be.

I still have not finished the room. I am working here and there as much as I can. Due to weather it has been hard to get it done but as soon as I am done here, I will get back to it. I bought a kitchen scale as the other has been giving me issues. I need a container on top to hold the pups and this one that just got delivered said it had one but its tiny - should have checked the size and no container. So, now I have to find another - return this one. argh So upset. I need a scale that does grams, ounces in small increments and can contain them. Oh well this one will go back and hope the next one comes in time. I really wanted a scale that was a pet one but needed one that had small increments. Not all of them do. We have one for the adult dogs but it does not weigh in small increments. I did find one but didn't want to pay so much for it but guess I will have to. <sigh> Ordered and it will come Wednesday - quickest. Weighing pups accurately is important.

Misty and Sage will get a bath tomorrow though Nathan doesn't think they need one as they were done a few days ago. Maybe just a back end wash as Misty is shedding the mucous plug and its important to keep them clean.

We shalll see what tomorrow brings. I may have Dennis sterilize the floor tonight as tomorrow is his day off and I will set up most tomorri and he can finish on my day off Wednesday. Dennis is holding off till Thursday and that may be okay too.

Now back to finishing this room. Guess we best have it set up as her temps are 98.8. Still not there unless it dropped before I took her temps tonight. Either way, makes sense to do setup tonight.

Misty Update

For the last few days Misty has been losing her mucos plug. They can do this for a week  approximately. Sage is not so if this holds true, Misty will be first to deliver.

I am not ready yet. I have much to do. I need to finish this room and help Dennis set up the xpen. I then get all the supplies ready, the whelping box, towels, face cloths, cameras. I need to make a list. I think I will do that tonight. I should just keep a stagnant one on my computer. Niw that would be easy.

Thank you to Sherry for making a fresh blanket (1 for each mom)  that we will use to take the pups on after mom is cleaned after delivery. We also ordered heatlamp bulbs from the states to keep the pups warm. They willl come from the states and hopefully be here in time. The ones here are for reptiles and they kept getting cold and that's not what you want.

Not too far away now. Back to work...

Misty Belly Shots

Here is the gallery.

Misty already seems to have the start of milk coming in and that's scary to me. Both moms are due around the same time.

Both moms are really good with each other though Misty likes to think they are all her pups and Sage says no when they are newborn. It's a funny interaction but they trust each other a great deal.

We have a lot to get ready for and I am not ready in the least but it will come together.

Our days off will disappear till the pups go upstairs and Dennis is not up all night. That is usually around the 5 week mark. Till January and days off again. LOL Even with all the hard work there is nothing like puppies. Oh and we monitor the pups 24/7 with cameras etc.

XRAY Date

The pregnancy xray date is October 28th. Misty has the wild look hair as she always seems to before she is due. She has had morning sickness but not as of late. She finds cool spots on the flooring to cool herself off. I will be washing the girls sometimes this week and will do a belly shot. They have had combouts but are overdue on baths.

Mulling over doing stuffed elephants and putting their names and birthdates on the ears to go home.

Sasha's Last Bath: 3 Updates Here Today

How did she do? She was absolutely great.

Here is the gallery.

I am so sorry I am so late but so much to do including cleaning the air conditioner so we can turn it on. Be thankful if you have a handyman. Enough of that!

I can't believe we will be down to 2 tomorrow. How can that be? This one won't be going home till 5pm so we may be late doing blogs. What's new? LOL
