Another Update: Gains Added

Click on Photo for Larger ViewRuth was kind enough to bring some items for the pups and for rescue today. Here you will see sherpa pads that are really perfect that she gave us. It helps the pups with their traction. We also put a few toys in from her for colour. Thank you again! Hope I didn't appear too tired.

Cat Napping Adele

Dennis will be doing night duty tonight. I am a tad trashed. Need to eat a decent meal and sleep. I may send Nathan out for Schwarma tomorrow. I think I deserve it. Hahaha Plus moms love it.

Pups are all doing well. I will post later tonight if they gained when I do tonight's weigh-in. They are active.

Due to size they are sleeping between feedings. Adele is very lucky.

Dennis thought Adele had any milk but pups are gaining and her milk is in. As demand grows so does milk supply. Right now she is eating about 6 times a day. She thinks she is starving. She also has ice cubes in her water as she appreciates cold water. heh

Notice in the videos sometimes you see their tails wagging to some degree or standing up. This means they are tanking up with momma's milk. They want for nothing from Adele. She remains amazing!

It's not 24 hours yet but I am not staying up till after 11 to take temps. So this is 22 hours or less.

Sable boy - gained 1/2 oz - 22 hours old

Sable Gal - gained 7/8oz - 21.5 hours old

Black - very dark brown sable gal gained 1/2 oz - 20.5 hours old

Black/White gal gained 3/4 oz - 19.5 hours old

Brown Sable Boy gained gained 3/4 oz  - 19 hours old

As you can see gain across the board and they are not 24 hours yet. It is norm for them to lose weight the 1st 24 hours as we wait for sufficient mom's milk to come in.

24 Hours Tonight: Not Yet: Video Added

Click on Photo for Larger ViewFirst Video of October 1st Pups

Click on Photo for Larger ViewClick on Photo for Larger ViewClick on Photo for Larger ViewClick on Photo for Larger ViewSome of these photos are so faded out as I have too much light in this room. Perhaps I need to shut the blinds.

Pups have all gained across the board and they aren't even 24 hours old yet.

The black one doesn't appear black. Will be interesting to see the changes in a couple of weeks. They are plump. Sometimes vocal if they can't find a nipple. They seem to be very strong pups. Adele remains proud.

I am blessed to have good moms but the moms here are treated so extra special that they go, wow great food, massages - ah this is the life.

Hoping Adele takes a solid nap. So far bowels are soft but not bad and she is going outside to do her duty and always covering up her pups when she departs.

First Night

Click on Photo for Larger ViewIt's only 3am and I am waiting for 7am so I can go to sleep. Wish I had ear plugs as its hard to sleep during the day at this house.

Our son Jon came upstairs just a bit ago to see Adele's pups and she rolled on her back for a belly rub and was grinning from ear to ear showing off her pups. I can't believe how delighted she is at her little packages of joy.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewWe will try to do head shots in the next day or two. It depemds on how I recover after no sleep. hahaha Right now I am on a high so excited about the pups and that they are doing so well and mom is so happy about them - bonus!

Click on Photo for Larger ViewI am hoping Momma Adele gets some sleep as she needs it.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewShe is so attentive. What a delight!

After she gave birth to her litter, I had to wash her back end, tail and legs off. I do this as quickly as possible so she can get back to her pups. She has already been outside to do her business. So far no cleanup. Usually at this stage you clean them each time they go out. You can't live them wet as you don't want the pups chilled. So far she is staying clean.

Here is the gallery I promised.

Adele Loving Her Pups First Night

Adele's First Litter Eating and Resting

Less Than 12 Hours Old

Resting and Eating

Adele is sleeping at the moment and so are the pups. That is the benefit of having larger pups as they rest in-between vs. feeding constantly. They gain better with rest between. I am glad they are sleeping. I wish I was. hahahaha

All pups are defecating. That means their bodies are working.

It is normal for the pups to lose the first 24 hours but then they should start to gain. Usually I am weighing them frequently as they are smaller but I won't weigh this crew till morning. Well, I couldn't help myself. I weighed them at 345am out of curiousity. All seem to have slightly gained. Good one!

Well, I never got to the baby consignment shop to get a couple of comforters. Best laid plans.

Looks like we have September pups all born on the same day and Roxie will have October pups.

Oh darn looks like Adele is only taking short naps.

Puppies Coming

Click on Photo for Larger ViewFirst one is a boy born at 853pm and he weighs in at 7-5/8oz - 217g. This one has a cream thin blaze on head and creamy feet it appears. Will kmow more when he is dried. She did get vocal but she is doing well.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewSecond one born at 923pm is a gal and the scale was not registering correctly. She is actually 8oz - 227grams. Another sable but a gal.

Here's a poor quality video of the first 2 but thought you may want to see.

Click on Photo for Larger ViewWhile we wait the siblings both have a white blaze. Good thing they are different genders. heh

Click on Photo for Larger ViewThird is a gal born at 10:23pm. She was 8-5/8oz - 256grams. Puppy had a very difficult time coming out so she had a lot of fluid in nostrils etc. Nathan worked on her and worked on her. She is now eating.

Here are 4 pups eating. One pup was half out till a second ago. It is not THE SMALLEST - JUST LOOKED THAT WAY. This one does not appear black. We will see in the morning but certainly has brown overtones. She is doing great now and lively as all heck.

Click on Photo for Larger View4th one is a black and white gal. She was born at 10:50PM. She weighs 7oz - 201grams

Click on Photo for Larger ViewLast one is a boy who is actually the smallest weighing in at 6-1/2 oz - 185 grams. He is either a brown sable or red sable. Colours do change when they dry up etc. But its not supposed to be about colour, folks. heh I get excited about it too but you have to live with the pup so let's see how they all develop.

More photos in a bit. I am on night duty. Lucky me. Dennis says he is too tired to do it tonight but if all goes well he is on tomorrow night. I just took a shower to wake up.

Temps Updated: Nesting Video Added

This morning 98.7. It's not low enough. First day is today. Last day is October 5th. :-)

98.4 12:37pm

98.2 2:54pm

It's usually 12-24 hours when it drops and starts to rise.

Adele was panting quite a bit but she is now sleeping. Hope that means tomorrow morning not in the wee hours. Time will tell. All I know is she is not in labour yet. I will take another temperature after dinner. Most moms but there are exceptions won't eat when they are going in labour.

Here is a video of her nesting.

Here's more nesting in case you aren't board.

Adele is not eating her dinner.

Adele and Newton's Xrays

Click on Photo for Larger ViewHere is Adele's xray from the vet. Can you count them?

Adele is due anytime from tomorrow on. She is having 5 pups. She is huge sitting at 14.8lbs

Adele travelled well to the vets. She behaved perfectly for her xrays. We went through white sheet rain there and back. Traffic was interesting.

Here we are waiting our turn.

Tomorrow News

Is this confusing?
12-24 is considered ovulation in the nmol./L method, so you have to roughly count 9 weeks from about July 29 to give earliest likely due date, 9 wks. from the 31st Adele should have pups by that point.
Gestation counted as 9 wks. from known ovulation, never the breeding dates.  So you would count backwards about 5 days from the first breeding & use that as day of ovulation to be prepared for first possible whelping day. Reasoning is that it takes 2 days after ovululation for eggs to be ready then they remain ready to be fertilized for 2-3 days.  Past that point they are no longer able to be fertilized so the gal would not have gotten pregnant.  But this is only to figure earliest possible - with multiple breedings, you can never be sure which one did it :)

So counting from July 29th....
I think 63 days is the 30th. Count and let me know. That means pups are possible from Wednesday on.
Tomorrow will be interesting. I am hoping for the weekend just because I need some downtime before the busy-ness.

Third Update

Roxie wants my xpen, her xpen - everyone's xpen. We are 80% set up. Still working on it but I suspect it won't get done till tomorrow. We have made a LOT of progress.
