9 and a Half Days Old

These pups are gaining really well. They all equally tend to enjoy being held despite their eyes still being closed. I can't wait till they open them up. The next stage is eyes open, ears open then out of whelping box and play. When both sets of pups are out of their whelping box, they will get acquainted with each other between the bars. Eventually we will put them both together for play then till they head home. This helps them socialize and enjoy each others company.

Absolutely fun times are in store for all that watch. I love every stage but most people enjoy the full out run and play stage. It is an exciting journey.

I am still playing recovery with Nathan doing the show and getting hurt but we are getting there. Fun times are in store for you - and for us too.

We are behind today - groceries, a pick up of blades and a battery part from Deboers and grooms already so I apologize for the lateness as it always gets done unless squarespace gives me fits. 

I am so glad you get a daily look at the pups. It is what I would want. 

8 and a Half Days Old: Photos Added at Bedtime

Here is the gallery. 

The pups are actually 6.5 days apart but I round it out to days. Here is the choco gal. I am attempting to show her brown pads. If (not all have spots) on their pads they appear to have chocolate spots, they are a chocolate. They may have green or blue eyes where non chocolates have black spots and a black nose. A chocolate gets a brown nose.

It appears to be a blur to me. Time is interesting when you are busy.

The pups are all plump and gaining daily. Ms Hallie takes care of them so well. If they fuss, she runs to take care of them but at 1st, she refused to leave them. She now knows she doesn't have to. 

One Week Old

Here is the gallery.

As you will see in the gallery, one of the pups is sleeping on her back - a gal. The boy is often seen in this position but he has a fat tummy so I gather that position may be more comfortable. He will slim out as he grows and walks. 

The one gal is a chocolate, as I suspected. She has brown spots vs black on her pads. She also has red overtones in her. It is going to be interesting how this crew develops.

Everyone continues to gain. These pups melt into your hands when you hold them. It is hard to explain but it is as if they go, ah that feels good. Usually they stiffen up as their eyes are closed and they don't know what is going on or they wriggle a great deal (that is why we condition them) but this crew delights in the snuggles. I want to hold them all day due to this reaction. As their eyes open up and they can see, the reaction is wagging tails and hey let's play. These are all normal development. It is unusual for them to melt and trust the environment without eyes and ears open but they do!

6 Days Old

Here is the gallery.

These pups are edging up on 1 week old. They are plump. They are continually gaining well. Momma is mighty attentive. The pups are doing well.

They have a bit before opening their eyes but that can start happening in about 4 days - so sooner than you think. They will have their own timeline for this. Their ears will happen at the same time.

Initially they will be a week behind but after 3 plus weeks, the development gets closer as the younger pups will rise and learn from the older pups giving them an advantage there but the older will learn to dumb down their play until they are equal in development. It is a fascinating process and actually with 2 litters close to age, it works for both litters.

5 Days Old

Here is the gallery.

Pups are doing really well gaining and getting plump. A couple of them is already over 1 pound. They are eating well. Only the odd time do you need to help them to find their way out of the back of mom the same as Nami's pups. 

These 2 litters are strong and eating and developing well. 

The boy is still the largest but that can change. The lighter sable is the smallest.

I hold all the pups many times a day to get them receptive to touch by humans and they seem to enjoy. No one lacks trust in being held.
