They are eating well. They have all gained weight. They are lively and finding their way to mom.

Each day I change the bedding. I take photos. I take a video and I weigh them. Maybe tonight I will try to get photos weighing. We shall see.

The videos will be added to here.

15 Hours or Less

A new gallery is up and I will add as I take. So refresh if you want to see new..

Nami appears excited and rested. The pups can find their way to mom to feed without having to place them on. Sometimes they are tired from the birthing experience or they are small so you have to help them. No help required unless one gets caught behind mom.

Mom and pups are doing well!

Videos will be found here. I will add them as I can. Just refresh. Today's blanket is white with hearts. Yesterdays was golden.

Pups were just weighed. All pups gained and are now or soon will be 24 hours old.

Update Today: Nesting Video Added

After an all nighter, she had a nap and now she is shivering and panting. Shivering means her cervix is dilating. So a daytime delivery but I pulled an all nighter.

Temps are now going up. I hadn't taken her temps till this morning when they are 99.4. Normal temperature of a dog is 99.5°F to 102.5°F. Wish I had known when her temperature went back up. I may have slept last night. LOL

When her body temperature goes to 98f, this is a sign that your dog will be going into stage 2 labor within the next twenty-four hours. Most dogs give birth within twenty-four hours after their body temperature dips. When it goes back up, it is usually within 12 hours. I have no idea when hers went back up but this morning it is.

She is still panting. Dennis is exercising so he gets his in. I may exercise though I am tired after Dennis and take her with me. That is nuts but I have not missed a day. I may not do much. I just may do 1 set to maintain my streak. I have exercised every day since December 2nd.

I am drinking coffee and watching a Japanese show on Netflix that Nathan suggested. We have a passion for music. He has already listened to it all.

As I type, Nami is massively panting. Will I get exercise in? That is debatable.

We Are Not Sleeping

Nami is panting but not terribly. Think she will make it till later today. I am not sleeping. I need to watch but I am exhausted. When breakfast is done, I may rest or not. I need someone to watch her. Right now she stole the cooling bed ooops Murphy has it back.

Nathan is in our guestroom so he can get rest. This is the usual. He doesn't do well without sleep. It is why he takes daily naps.  Nami takes cat naps - which is smart. Interesting enough, Hallie is being highly attentive to Nami. Proves to me how caring they both are.

Temps Update

I will put temps up in this one post each time I take it.

What we are doing is we are waiting for a true drop of 98f

She will not have pups tonight unless it drastically changes. She is NOT nesting and she is eating and she is not shivering. These are all indicators that whelping is imminent.

At 5:50pm August 4, 2025 her temps was 99.9f

Next stage xrays and a number count.

------

Nami not eating but at 8:05am her temps are 99.3. Getting closer but not there yet. We will see what the xrays say.

Getting Close

Here is a mini gallery taken of Nami today.

Nami had a bath. I need to shave the rest of her tummy beforew xrays on Tuesday.

Xrays have to be sent to us after the visit so I will announce how many late afternoon and then add the xray photo.

As you can see, we are almost there with Nami's whelping area. We have the cameras up, the heating lamps are tested and in place. I still have a bowl to finish making. Sherry made blankets for that 1st shot of the pups after the box is cleaned up. How wonderful is that?

Hopefully no pups be

What is Next?

There is a gallery of the gals today outside on our outdoor couch. It is on the main blog on today.

Nami is eating like she is starving. Her tummy is huge. Now we wait till xrays and play the waiting game of when she will whelp.

Nami is sooner than you think. We are not ready but we need to be. Nami is due around August 6th or 7th. Xrays are on August 5th. We had to do xrays this late due to Hallie's due date.

Tummy Shot & Calendar

This was taken today. I will try to get up a schedule of what to expect soon.

Nami was bred to Opus out of our Jeannie line. This is her 2nd litter.

She has pups that are on the smaller end and pups that end up her size. It gives a lot of choice, depending on what you are looking for.

Week 6 July 12-18th

  • During the last several weeks, nutritional needs nearly double. We feed small meals several times a day.
  • We Increase water having water dishes throughout the night and day.
  • Enlargment of mammary glands as nipples darken and enlarge.

Week 7 July 19th - 25th

  • She may shred papers, blankets or bedding in an attempt at nest building in the last weeks. She is not doing this - usually not till the end - last week.
  • During the last 2 weeks, your pet may become irritable but she is not.
  • Moderate exercise is the proper approach. Neither forced rest nor strenuous exercise is a good idea. Short periods of gentle play are good.
  • You may feel the puppies now but counting them may be a bit more difficult.
  • Definate abdominal enlargement.
  • Abdomen hair will start shedding.

Week 8 July 26th - August 1

  • Dam begins to spend a lot more time grooming herself.
  • Her breasts become swollen as her milk forms.
  • Nesting begins as she looks for a place to have her puppies in the last week. We set up a pen days before delivery.
  • During this week she may not have as big of an appetite during this period. Her abdomen can be crowded with puppies. But we feed her throughout making it easier for her.
  • You can feel the puppies move now.
  • We will get her used to her whelping box

Week 9

  • Nipples and vulva should be gently cleaned with warm water, we trim the hairs surrounding the nipples, to allow easier access for the puppies to suck.
  • She may express milk from her nipples.
  • Watch for her temperature to drop. You may take it rectally if you want but she's just plain old cool to the touch compared to what she has been the last 8 weeks.
  • She may also become restless, seek seclusion and in the last few days, soil the house.
  • She will be 'nesting' 12-24 hours before the birth

Expected Date of Whelp August 10th with a 3 day(s) window each way.

  • Expected date of whelp. Average is 62 days but may take place from the 58th to the 68th day. Angel laid on the couch on her back the entire day before giving birth.
  • Keep watching for that cool to the touch.. if you're actually taking the temp, it does drop from 101 to a true 98 degrees.
  • Appetite will disappear as whelping approaches.
  • May see a clear discharge from the vulva.
  • At onset of labor may pace, dig, shiver, pant and/or vomit.
  • First fetus will be delivered within 4 hours of the onset of labor.
