Day 4 or 5?

Here is the gallery.

In all our excitement over the past few days, I just realized that the 1st pup born was on the 21st 3 minutes before midnight and the rest was born after midnight starting at 12:16am. The surprise pup was born at 406am. So how old are they in reality? LOL

Here are the weights (B) birth (N) now

1st born

(B) 7-3/8oz 210g

(N) 9-2/8oz 260g

2nd born

(B) 5oz 144g

(N) 7oz 199g

3rd born

(B) 5-5/8oz 159g

(N) 7-2/8oz 207g

4th born

(B) 5-6/8oz 163g

(N) 7-4/8oz 213g

5th born

(B) 6-4/8oz 184g

(N) 9-2/8oz 264g

6th born

(B) 8-4/8oz 241g

(N) 10-2/8oz 291g

They all gained - even the littlest approx 2 oz. They are all doing well. There is a tight fit to get to a milk station but it appears to be working.

4 of the pups have tan points on them - some more pronounced than the rest. 2 are back and white. We have 2 girls and 4 boys.

Yoshi is a very proud mom. She is eating well. She is very attentive. But she is also relaxed - no fretting.

Just about the time Hallie and Nami pups go, they will move into their pen and will have play sessions. Wow...

Day 4

Usually I comb out the moms daily but with the warmth potential issues, I didn't do Yoshi. So, this morning she got a complete combout and she wasn't so bad. She had 2 knots, is all from the pups crawling through her hair.

Here is the gallery. I will add to it throughout the day.

Everyone is gaining though the smallest gain is on the smallest gal. Today, I will make sure she is on. Yoshi being the smallest mom has limited space for 6 pups so fitting in may be an issue for the smallest so we will make sure her gains are more significant. The rest, not an issue and not her either. I just note it that space may be an issue. She has not ever lost and she is tiny in length like her mom. She most likely will be the smallest in adulthood and I 'get' liking small.

As an extra treat, those visiting on Saturday, I will hold her in my hands so you can see a pup at this age. You can't touch but you can see.

Yoshi is attentive and highly loving. She is also eating significantly and due to having 6, it is a must. No more upset tummies like she had during pregnancies - just give me the food.

The pups have round tummies - even the smallest and are lively!

I am doing better. I even have videos up already and will do Nami and Hallie after their morning play session.

Day 3

Here is the gallery - yesterdays and todays together into 1 gallery.

I think these are super pups. We not only had to deal with a surprise at birth but we also had to manage to keep them warm till we got electricity so we could have them toasty with the heat lamp.

Puppies, till they are 2.5 weeks old can't regulate their body heat. They need mom to stay warm and a heat source.  They did not have a heat source.

They are now toasty.

They are all across the board gaining weight. Yoshi is a proud mom who only leaves them to use the pad or eat and back to them. Last night she didn't leave them. After the electricity came on, she ate and ate.

They are gaining weight. They are lively and mom is eating a ton. We lost food but losing pups or them getting sick would have been worse. This house was cold due to the storm. We can put sweaters on but pups can't.  I had slippers and a sweatshirt on - too cold for pups that need to be at 78f.

We are glad we have electricity.

Be sure to check out the shorts. Plus the main directory of the videos here.

Day 2

Still having electrical issues. Thankful for cellular but can't do galleries and videos took all night to upload. Trying to keep pups warm without electrical. Hoping it gets fixed today.

Pups are all lively and eating. She has milk. All have gained and I mean all. Yoshi is eating between 6 and 8 times a day - yes that much. She keeps them cleaned and freaks out when we weigh them.

This house is still dark. We have 2 mini camping lights that work on batteries and at this rate we will lose our food. They don't give off much light but better than nothing. It is cloudy today. My camera automatically turns on flash so you can see.

Over a Day Old

Here is the gallery.

Look at this pup already attempting to get up on his legs. What a strong one you are.

Momma Yoshi is doing well. She is eating a ton. She must with 6 pups. She still doesn't have her milk in fully. But they are slightly gaining or holding their own. No one is losing so that is a good thing! All pups are doing well. Their weight gains other than the 2 large ones will be less dramatic than Nami or Hallies. They will be smaller pups.

Dennis was so exhausted that he said he fell asleep last night from 4amish to 7amish. Still, no losses. He is back in bed so hopefully he will be able to stay awake tonight or I will do night duty and that interrupts with my sessions with the older dogs. When I do night duty, I stay awake every single minute. I purposely do not sit down. I do all the things like laundry, dishes being placed down, dog food bowls filled and set up. I just do. Hoping his body plays catchup.

The littlest gal is a strong gal as she moves all over the place. One pup appears brown not black. We have tan points on some and the black and whites seem to have strong black. They are really nice looking pups.

I have held them all much to the nervousness of Yoshi. I weigh them and have to block her as she puts her snout in the scale skewing the weights. This is new momma naturalness that will pass. She does get out of her pen to eat. She doesn't want Nami and Hallie in here as they go right in the whelping box to move and lick the pups and I imagine that doesn't feel comfortable to her till they are older. This is normal.

All pups appear strong and viable and she so loves them already.

Pups Are Here Plus Surprise

First pup born is black and white gal - may have the silvering gene. Yoshi had a big puppy and was struggling to get her all the way out but we knew the pup was fine as it came out head first and had it's head out but not the body.

The puppy weighs 7-3/8oz 210g which is huge for her. I was expecting 4 oz pups.

It has a white blaze on its chest. I am tired so I apologize if photos are not the best but there will be a lot of photos. She was born on September 21 at 11:57PM. The rest will be born on September 22. LOL

Here is the gallery and I will add to it as we go.

Here is the 2nd born and he is a boy. He weighs what I expected 5oz 144g He was born at 1216am. He has tan bleeding through his legs. He has a thin white line on his chest. I think he will be broen and tan.

You can't compare birth weights with Hallie or Nami as they are larger dogs. My expectation was 5oz. It's like the goldfish syndrome. They can only grow as much as there is room. But then read on and you get surprises.

The 3rd is a girl who weighs 5-5/8oz 159g. She has a t shaped blaze on her chest with tan points. She was born at 1250am. She is tan and deep brown.

4th was born at 115am and it is a boy. White blaze around neck and all the way down the tummy with 2 white back paws.

5th one born is a boy. He was born at 148am. He weighs 6-4/8oz 184g He is more white than the rest with a half mask. He's rather cool looking.

Here are the 5 pups. 2 girls, 3 boys. Placentas are still inside so we wait for her to expel them. Nathan went to bed as he has Harlow at the vet in the morning and a car to bring back. It means I will be awake till 1pmish. I am not sure I can but I must - no choice. I am really really tired.

Good news, Dennis fixed the washer so I have 12 loads to do. I am so laughing.

Not a sound out of Yoshi while doing her delivery but antsy and like a moving target. I cleaned her up while Nathan took photos and laid down the blanket Sherry gave to the pups. Thank you, truly!

Now to make coffee as I think I will need a vat.

Pups are gorgeous and momma is really proud!

Then a surprise.

Yoshi had a 6th puppy - a boy and the largest sitting at 8-4/8oz 241g I call him bandid due to his markings. He had a tough time coming out. He was born at 406am. She bit his cord too close so we had to stop the bleeding but he is good and eating.

I feel like a truck hit me and I can't go to sleep until about 1pm.

Yoshi's 6 are all eating and finally Yoshi calmed down. You see she knew she had 6. Nathan even went to bed and I attempted to get the 6th out. Woke up Nathan as she was having difficulties and needed an extra set of hands. We were a good team. We didn't know she had 6 as we were told with the xrays there was 5.

When Nathan gets up again, I have to wash her yet again. I am letting her feed and when the house is up, I will clean her again.

What a week and then the last couple of days.

Be sure to check out the shorts. Plus the main directory of the videos here.

A New Low and She is Nesting: Update

Her temps are now 97.9. She has reached her drop. It will not go lower than this. So most likely within 12 to 24 hours. I did say she was hiding so I have pillows under the couch to stop her from going into labour under the couch. I think I have everything blocked. Oh boy...

Well she is not progressing so it looks like a no sleep for me night. She will sleep as she can. I can't take a chance. Oh boy...

This Morning

Temps are 98.2 - lowest I have caught it at. She is not nesting but hiding much to my irritation. She hides under the couch, behind the recliner, under my grooming storage and on and on. She is hiding.

We are now close but how close - we shall see.

Latest Temps Etc

I have a nagging feeling I forgot something and when Yoshi went in or attempted to and couldn't, I said oh stairs. What else have I missed. I should have a list but I don't.

Her temps are back up to 100 never going down to low 98 but did I miss it during the night or its not time. No nesting still. I am losing my mind.

Nathan is back later tomorrow so maybe she will indeed wait. Time will tell.

I have to climb on to the couch. It is crowded in here.

Pups will be 4 weeks when the older pups depart and then they will take over the larger pen and I can stop being cramped. LOL
